What is the overall average cost of the trip? Is there a startup fee?
Fear not! Our program covers all costs once participants are in Lebanon – from accommodations to meals, cultural events to bus trips, and more. Participants are responsible for their plane tickets into and out of Lebanon, and Back to Roots does not cover individual costs for alcohol or tobacco (shisha) while in Lebanon. Participants often bring extra cash that they use for buying snacks, souvenirs, and so on.
Do you provide any financial aid or scholarships for students?
Unfortunately, Back to Roots does not yet have the resources to contribute to the costs of plane tickets. That’s something we’d love to do in the future, but we’re not there yet!
I would like to know if I'm 17 if I would still be eligible to apply.
Participants must be 18 years of age at the start date of the program. If you apply while you are 17, but you’re turning 18 before the program starts, you’re good to go!
Where will participants be staying?
Participants stay in the Beithania Hotel and Conference Center in Mount Lebanon in double-rooms so that you can get to know each other better!
When can I see family members?
Traveling to Lebanon for many of us is a pretty long trip, so we know you want to make the most out of your time to here — and part of that is seeing family members. Back to Roots designates specific activities where family members are allowed to join you — these include dinners, beach days, and other activities. These activities are specifically designated on the schedules for each year. But to maintain the cohesiveness and camaraderie, we do not allow participants to split off from the group unless there is a family emergency.
